Salina’s Inspirational Journey

Salina’s story is one of resilience, recovery, and hope. After spending four years in a sober living house, she regained custody of her 15-year-old daughter but lacked reliable transportation for work and medical appointments. Referred to Hands by Bridge of Hope in October 2024, we placed her in a 2010 Subaru Forester later that year.

“I am so very grateful for this program and the opportunity the vehicle placement has given me,” said Salina. “I have more time with my daughter, and we have already been up in the mountains a few times with the dog to enjoy the outdoors. We have also been able to be more connected to our family members who live out of town.”

The reunion has been a period of adjustment for both of them as they get to know each other again, having changed significantly over the years. Despite these challenges, her daughter has shown a remarkable talent for art, creating impressive pieces that reflect her creativity and resilience.

“My daughter got her learner’s permit! Because of this program, we can work towards getting her driver’s license. I would’ve never been able to afford a decent vehicle in time for my daughter’s milestones to be met as a young lady without this program,” she told Hands.

Salina works at a recovery home and serves as a peer coach, connecting Denver clients with essential resources and support. She is also actively involved in the 12 Step Fellowship, serving as the Co-Chair for the state association. Her dedication to helping others is evident, and she is working towards becoming a licensed addiction counselor through the MSU Human Services program.

“Having a reliable vehicle has helped eliminate many different stresses that I would experience on a daily basis before. I am also able to consider better work opportunities now that I am not solely reliant on public transportation.”

Salina will now transition into Hands’ Lift UP program, which provides auto maintenance services for up to three years at reduced costs. Her story highlights the impact of the support and services provided by the organization, and as part of the Hands of The Carpenter family, her journey continues to inspire and offer hope to others in similar situations.

“This program and everyone involved is a blessing, and I am forever grateful. I hope that one day I will be able to pay this blessing forward to another single mother in the future and donate a vehicle towards this much-needed service.”
