Jasmin – Grateful for the Hands Up!

Jasmin came to Hands for hope and help in 2021. As a working single mom, she needed a vehicle. At the time, she lived in Wheat Ridge with her three boys, Jayson (15), Azarion (9), and Elijah (7). She was using public transportation as their means of transportation for school and to get to work. Jasmin is passionate about caring for others and has worked in the healthcare industry for over 20 years since graduating high school. Over the years, she has progressed in healthcare, working as a Certified Nurse Assistant to a Medical Assistant, and from there, she has continued to move to other positions in the industry. She currently works for Davita in the Dialysis Admissions Department scheduling appointments for patients.

Without transportation, it was becoming increasingly difficult for the boys to be involved with activities and for her to advance with a career and education. It was clear transportation was a showstopper so she searched for assistance online and found Hands of The Carpenter. On November 3, 2021, Jasmin applied for assistance and was later approved for Lift UP, a three-year program. She recalls Crystal, Hands’ Automotive Service Director asking her about the vehicle she needs. What Jasmin did not expect was to be given autonomy to select a vehicle to fit her needs. When a vehicle became available, Jasmin was dealing with a family crisis that she had to pass and asked to be placed on hold.

In 2023, her family situation improved, and she was in a much better place to find a vehicle. Jasmin applied for financial assistance through Colorado Credit Union (CCU) and was approved to finance the vehicle she chose through Hands. On May 18, 2023, Jasmin was placed in a 2011 Subaru Outback.

Jasmin said,

“I would not have been able to afford a car on my own if Hands did not exist to assist single moms.”

Since being placed in a vehicle in 2023, Jasmin has moved from a Wheat Ridge apartment into a much larger apartment in Aurora. She has advanced in her job making more money to support her family. In April 2024, she enrolled in school for medical billing and coding with plans to graduate in February 2025. The boys are older and are more active in school activities, Jayson is 18, Azarion is now 12, and Elijah is 10. As a family they travel around town and enjoy the outdoors. With CCU financing, her credit has improved.

She appreciates all that Hands does to support single moms. Her experience of being in the Lift UP program has been extremely helpful and she knows that anytime issues arise with her vehicle, she can call Hands and be seen quickly. Jasmin is grateful to Hands for the change in her life and giving her the “Hands Up she needed and not a Handout.”
